Art Dolls/Figurative Sculpture, Fiber Arts
Stacey Bear is an artist and antique dealer living in an 1812 farmhouse in South Central Pennsylvania.
Stacey first began making spun cotton ornaments and whimsical dolls in 1996 when she started her business Momentos. Over the years she has taught herself to create her cotton figures with similar methods used by skilled artisans over 100 years ago in Germany. Stacey sculpts the heads from paper clay and carefully paints them with acrylic or oil paint and often use glass eyes. The garments are made of 100% cotton batting which she hand dyes. Antique fabrics, trims and lace are added and miniature accessories that she creates add a final touch. Stacey loves to make Easter, Halloween, and Christmas figures as well as Valentines Day, Patriotic sewing-themed peddler dolls and more!
Stacey has about five scheduled virtual shows a year. She also does several in-person shows each year including the Zoar Artisan Tent in Zoar, Ohio and Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween in Marshall, Michigan. In addition Stacey takes part in the DC Big Flea in Chantilly, Virginia in March and November where she has both art and antiques for sale.
Making art and collecting has been Stacey's passion from a very young age. From the first time she picked up a paint brush, built her own dollhouse at age 12 and collected every rock, shell and curiosity she could find, her life has been centered on learning and creating!
