Chloë Dukes is the artist and creator behind Olive Barn Studios, a Florida-based handmade art studio specializing in whimsical, spooky, and nostalgic Halloween-inspired creations.
Originally from the UK, Chloë began creating and selling her artwork around 2016, after moving to the United States. Her work grew from a lifelong love of Halloween, storytelling and handmade crafts into Olive Barn Studios, where she creates small, characterful pieces inspired by the charming, playful side of the spooky season.
A large part of Chloë's creative process begins with illustration. She often develops her characters on paper first, giving them their own personalities and stories, before bringing them into the physical world through paper clay and fabric. This process allows her illustrations to become three-dimensional characters that collectors can hold and enjoy.
Her work includes original cats, ghosts, skeletons, bats, pumpkins and other curious little creatures. Combining the nostalgia of vintage Halloween with a soft, whimsical aesthetic, Chloë's pieces often feature expressive faces, tiny details and a distinctly handmade, storybook quality.
Each piece is individually handmade, giving the characters their own personalities and making every creation slightly unique. Her Skelly Cats, including her popular Skelly Santa Cat and Skelly Bat Cat, have become some of her best-known creations among collectors.
Chloë sells her work through her online shop and shares new creations, releases and glimpses into her creative process through social media. She particularly enjoys creating pieces that feel as though they have wandered out of a tiny, wonderfully spooky storybook.
Her love of character design and storytelling extends beyond her collectible art and one of Chloë's long-term dreams is to illustrate a children's spooky book or perhaps write and illustrate one herself. She hopes to continue developing the characters and worlds that inspire her artwork and bring more of them to life through illustration, sculpture and textile art.
