Waiting for Halloween
Painting
Leslie Evans’ art has been called gentle spooky. Her paintings are haunted scenes that celebrate all things strange, spooky, and Halloween. Atmospheric landscapes might have witches flying across the sky, a ghost or two peeking out a haunted house window, or a menacing scarecrow against a beautiful sunset… but you don’t always see them at first glance. It takes a closer look to get lost in these painted stories.
Leslie’s acrylic and oil paintings are a traditional expressionistic style, with both a sophisticated and light-hearted flair. You will not see any blood, gore, or dark subject matter. The Happy Halloween spirit has been in her imagination since childhood. Paintings of Halloween icons, trick-or-treaters, and party decorations are often subjects. As a kid, she never missed a horror or sci-fi movie on Chiller Theater so flying saucers and robots get painted as well as a few celebrity monsters like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Loch Ness monster, and the Headless Horseman. Her style has a
graceful sophistication that doesn’t deem it cartoonish or decorative. Collectors are delighted with how she presents her subjects.
The combination of marrying a guy born on Halloween and living over 30 years in Sleepy Hollow, NY has nurtured this special art niche for Leslie. “Where else after living in Sleepy Hollow could I move to but the spooky state of Maine!”
Leslie Evans’ private studio in Scarborough, Maine is where her visions creatively come together forming collections of painted curiosities and spooky visual tales that will become personal treasures to be enjoyed year-round for years to come…while you are Waiting for Halloween.
