Matthews, Alycia

Alycia Matthews is a papier mâché artist living in New Hampshire, working from her home studio packed from floor to ceiling with magic and enchantment. Some of her inspiration comes from nostalgia of days gone by and she instills that appeal and personality into her one-of-a-kind art creations.

She’s always been creative and creating art since early childhood, and with growing up in historic New England, the whisper for things of a spooky nature has always been with her. Strolls through centuries old cemeteries is something she still loves to do with her dog Tucker by her side.

Her work has a whimsical and nostalgic feeling to it, that conjures the personality into each of her art works. She begins with sketches of each piece, and then creates a wire armature of the figure, wrapping it in strips of papier mâché before beginning her detailed hand sculpting. When the art work is dry, she paints each creation with a pallet of warm Halloween and Autumn hues. And if the piece beckons, fun vintage inspired embellishments are added to make the art piece complete.

magic that will bring a smile to your face, and that she regards as a very high compliment.
