Fool Crow
Taxidermy, Art Dolls/Figurative Sculpture
Vicki Nelson is the proprietress of Fool Crow, which is located in the small hamlet of Rio Vista, California. Fool Crow is a Cabinet of Curiosities and an Oddities shop, with a backdrop of vintage goods.
Vicki's studio is located within the shop and there she practices small mammal taxidermy which includes mice and rats and occasionally a small bird. Her vingnettes will usually include a mouse doing what a mouse would be doing in their wee mouse world. Maybe his is a chemist mixing elixirs or she might be a paper artist working long hours in her atelier. Vicki wants her stories to invite the viewer to come in and look around and get a feeling that they are in a dusty, dimly lit room, or a spooky night with the wind blowing leaves around.
She also works with paper mache and paper clay. Her characters are inspired by the old German and English Halloween/Christmas post cards. They will include black cats, JOLs and the frolicking Mushroom Men.
Vicki has always been an artist of some degree. Drawing and painting from nature, getting in trouble when she would draw in class, as most artists did. She won first prize painting the Headless Horseman for a Halloween window painting contest.
Vicki majored in Art during Junior College, transferring to The Academy of Art, San Francisco. Not knowing what he wanted to achieve, she tried all the she was allowed to!
