Oster, Angela

Angela Oster is a multi-media artist and illustrator based in Rocky River, Ohio. Raised on late night monster movies, Saturday morning cartoons, endless summer nights playing Ghost in the Graveyard and entirely too much candy, she has been conjuring characters from the edges of the imagination since childhood.

Angela's characters usually start out as watercolor, gouache and pen and ink illustrations. These creatures are brought into being with wire, paper mache, paperclay, spun cotton, and found objects, building each figure through a process refined over years of trial and error. No two pieces are alike. The translation from flat to three-dimensional is never predictable - each figure carries the evidence of its own making, a little rough, a little unexpected, and entirely unique. 

Her creative world is steeped in the aesthetics of classic horror, comic art, and humor. She hopes to invite people into her slightly odd little universe to make them feel a little less alone in their own.
