Dreadful Darlings Art Dolls
Art Dolls/Figurative Sculpture
Claudia Twede brings life into fabric and clay. There is a special kind of magic in transforming a lump of clay or a scrap of fabric into something alive with character. That is exactly what Colleen aims to cature in every doll she creates - eachone a unique, one-of-a-kind creature with its own personality and story.
Claudia's dolls start with simple cotton fabric which she sculpts delicately with a needle and thread. Once sculpted, she hand-paints them with acrylics, Prismacolor pencils, and pastels to give each piece deptth, expression, and soul. No two dolls ever look the same - they seem to decide for themselves who they want to be.
One of her favorite parts of the creative process is imagining the tales behind her little beings. She often writes short stories and poems about them, giving readers a peek into their whimsical world. Naming them is just as fun - the names always hint at their quirky personalties.
Witches, in particular, hold a pecial place in her heart. Each one emerges with her own backstory, unique powers, and, of course, a wonderfully craggy little face. For Colleen, no witch is complete without a few hair warts - the true mark of witchly beauty!
Over the years, Claudia's "Dreadful Darlings" have found homes in collection all around the world. One of the greatest joys is receiving photos from collectors, proudly displaying these creatures in their homes. Seeing them loved and cherished by other makes every stitch and stroke worthwhile for her. Claudia sells here creations through her Facebook and Instagram accounts.
