Art Dolls/Figurative Sculpture, Fiber Arts
Lurena Williamson is a maker of one-of-a-kind Halloween art dolls primarily through the use of textiles and mixed media. Her passion to create Halloween works began back in 2014 as she debuted her spooky creations at a large, well-known, Folk Art Show in Atlanta, GA. Lurena's works were well received, and her journey thus began following her passion and focusing primarily on Halloween-themed pieces.
Fall and the Halloween season have always been Lurena's favorite time of year. There is magic in the air and the veil is the thinnest.... stirring her passion and creative process. Lurena works somewhat intuitively – she has no formal way of beginning her creations. She just begins feverishly mixing and matching textures, fabrics, colors, old buttons, and digging through her hoard of treasures. An idea or character is birthed in this process, and she then begins to follow that creative pull or voice. The characters and creepy cute monsters manifest themselves – Lurena describes herself as just a conduit.
Lurena's passion for detail is intense and she is a true lover of time worn materials, repurposed goods, and she really enjoys celebrating the energy things carry in a new way or form. Lurena is a sensitive soul and both a creator and collector. Her works can be found at Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween art show, and also online in her
Etsy and BigCartel shops.
